essential oils

Bergamot

Probably most familiar as the distinctive flavour of Earl Grey tea, Bergamot combines fresh citrus with floral tones in a unique and lively scent. Bergamot is also an astringent with antibacantibacterial properties and can help to balance oil production.

Carrot Seed

Carrot Seed oil is a wonderful skin oil to revitalise all complexions.  It regenerates skin tone and elasticity, and also helps cleanse, detoxify and heal aggravated skin.

Frankincense

A premium oil for mature skin and anti-aging formulations, Frankincense stimulates regeneration and healing to rejuvenate and tone the skin.

Jasmine

Jasmine oil works primarily on the emotional level, having both a calming and uplifiting effect on the nervous system. Its euphoric fragrance is wonderful for a low mood, restoring optimism and confidence, and helping to release emotional blocks. Often used as an aphrodisiac, to clear inhibitions and indifference, and encourage a warm relaxed state for both men and women

Lavender

A highly versatile oil, lavender soothes eczema and dry skin, fights acne, helps reduce redness, blotchy patches, and acne scarring. Lavender oil is also a potent source of antioxidants that can help protect against wrinkles, fine lines, and dark age spots.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass oil’s robust aroma elevates the mood and promotes emotional stability.  It is a great tonic for for the whole body to promote wellness.

Manuka

Manuka has been traditionally used by New Zealand’s native Maori people for skin, respiratory and digestive ailments. Manuka essential oil is similar in action to Australian Tea Tree and possibly even more powerful in its antibacterial activity, yet is gentler on the skin and with a more herbaceous aroma. Manuka oil has powerful antimicrobial activity, soothes inflammation and aids healing, making it highly recommended for minor wounds and infections, acne, boils, warts, fungal conditions of the nails or skin, insect bites or stings, and other skin irritations. Manuka is gentler and less drying on the skin compared to Tea Tree.

Palmarosa

Palmarosa oil is used for dull, dry or devitalised skin to aid hydration and regeneration. It has antiseptic activity and is balancing and gentle on the skin

Rose Geranium

A wonderful oil for the skin, Rose Geranium’s balancing effect makes it suitable for dry, oily or combination skin, especially showing signs of congestion and stagnation such as acne, eczema, bruises and broken capillaries.

Sandalwood (Australian, Sustainable)

Sandalwood is deeply relaxing and calming. It aids inner strength and promotes inner peace. Sandalwood helps quiet the mind and instils a sense of warmth and openness, and has long been considered an aphrodisiac.

Sweet Orange

Sweet orange oil has a calming, refreshing and familiar scent.  It helps soothe dry, irritated or acne-prone skin and has been shown to increase the ability to absorbvitamin C, collagenproduction, and blood flow – all of which are essential for anti-aging.

Vanilla

Vanilla oil is a rich and excellent source of nutrients. It can work as an antioxidant, antidepressant and aphrodisiac. However the primary reason I use vanilla in kumanu formulations is simply for its wonderful aroma.

Vetiver

Vetiver is a nourishing and cooling skin oil especially recommended for irritated, damaged or devitalised skin. It has healing and strengthening properties helpful to minimise scars and stretch marks, and rejuvenate and tone aging or tired skin.

Ylang Ylang

Ylang ylang has a softening and balancing effect on the skin, scalp and hair. It can be used to regulate both oily and dry skin to restore a healthy complexion. The exotic floral scent of Ylang Ylang tells of its euphoric and sensual nature, and it has traditionally been used as a beautifying, seductive and relaxing oil.
